Due statuette per Justin Bieber, zero per Beyoncé. La regina degli ultimi Vma è rimasta a bocca asciutta agli Mtv European Awards 2016, che le ha preferito Lady Gaga, eletta come Best Female dell’anno. Al «bad boy» canadese il premio per Best Song (Sorry) e Biggest Fans, mentre il giovanissimo Shawn Mendes si porta a casa il titolo di Best Male of the Year.
«Sono emozionatissimo. Grazie a tutti, in particolare alla mia mamma, che oggi compie gli anni», ha dichiarato a caldo Mendes, esibitosi poco prima al pianoforte, sulle struggenti note della sua Mercy. Due premi anche per Martin Garrix e i Twenty One Pilots, che battono Adele, Beyoncé, i Coldplay e i Green Day come Best Live Act e i Radiohead come Best Alternative.
Come spesso accade, molti dei vincitori più attesi, come Gaga, Bieber e i Coldplay, non si sono fatti vivi. Al loro posto, dei brevissimi videomessaggi dove esprimevano la propria gratitudine per l’Ema conquistato e nulla di più.
