Nell’ottavo episodio, “Vita nuova”, un bambino della Repubblica Democratica del Congo affetto da gravi anomalie cardiache viene ricoverato al Saint Bonaventure Hospital, ma Melendez giudica le sue condizioni troppo gravi e rischiose per sottoporlo ad un intervento. A seguire, il nono episodio, “Sacrificio”: il dottor Glassman insiste perché Shaun segua una psicoterapia che lo aiuti a relazionarsi con i colleghi dell’ospedale. Lui è invece assolutamente contrario.
